Description Pituitary adenomas (PAs) are benign monoclonal tumors arising from adenohypophysial cells, among which the invasive behavior of some PAs renders obstacles for complete surgical resection and tends to recur as aggressive PAs. Understanding of pituitary tumorigenesis and PA invasiveness is urgently needed to direct the operation and postoperative treatments. To determine causal players and identify diagnostic markers in non-functioning (NF) and growth hormone (GH) PA progression and invasion, we assessed transcript changes during PA development and progression by high-throughput transcriptomic analyses and experimental validation. Our approach defines new characteristics in core molecular network for patients at risk for invasive NF-PAs, possibly promoting clinical advances in invasive PA management.
