Description |
Role of small RNA on the regulation of genome expression has been intensively studied in model plants. By contrast, little is known on perennial plants but a few studies revealed specific small RNA-mediated posttranscriptional regulations. We completed the recent release of massive genomic, transcriptomic and micro-transcriptomic data by a degradome analysis in order to identify all mRNAs cleaved by small RNAs. This work revealed that latex cells had a high small RNA-mediated transcript cleavage activity by miRNA and phased siRNA compared to other tissues. Post-transcriptional regulation was observed at each step of the natural rubber biosynthesis pathway. The absence of a conserved pathway for ta-siRNA production as well as partial conservation of targets revealed a divergence in interspecific post-transcriptional regulation suggesting a possible role during plant speciation and adaptation to environmental stresses. This comprehensive analysis of posttranscriptional regulations at the genome-wide level revealed new insight into evolutionary mechanisms of RNA silencing |
