Title Chromosome genome assembly and annotation of the sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.)
Relevance Agricultural
Data types Whole genome sequencing
Transcriptome or Gene expression
Raw sequence reads
Genome sequencing
Organisms Beta vulgaris
Description We sequenced the whole genome of sugar beet pure lines obtained by years of independent breeding. We completed the genome assembly of the sugar beet line at the chromosome level by using third-generation sequencing and HIC technology. The length of scaffold N50 and the longest chromosome are significantly increased compared to previously reported second-generation sequencing results. More than 35,000 protein-coding genes were structurally annotated, 92% of which could be matched in public databases. Four gene families of sugar beet were analyzed and found to be closely related to sugar synthesis, accumulation and transport of sugar beet. Several agronomic traits of sugar beet were analyzed and candidate genes related to these phenotypes were found respectively. Several genes related to pollen metabolism and development were found, and the results were consistent with q-PCR verification.
