Data types Whole genome sequencing
Organisms Anas platyrhynchos
Description Birds laying eggs with different eggshell colors are the results of long-term adaptive evolution to their living environments. Owing to human preference for eggshell color, the poultry have divergent eggshell colors, which can be inherited stably, after they were domesticated and bred by humans. These wonderful phenomena have always been raised the attention by ecologists and geneticists. Mallards migrate from North to South, widely distributed all over the world, and are also one of the important poultry that provided meats and eggs for humans. In our study, we focused on revealing the genetic basis of duck eggshell color trait. Totally, genome variations of 352 ducks and seven indigenous duck populations were obtained by using whole re-sequencing technology, transcriptome data of 11 individuals were analyzed, whole genome ATAC seq data were collected from two ducks, and Pacbio long reads were obtained from one indigenous duck by using the third generation of molecular re-sequencing technology.
