Magnoliids comprise the third largest branch of angiosperms, and their phylogenetic position relative to monocots and eudicots remains uncertain. Cinnamomum camphora (camphor), which belongs to Lauraceae in Laurales, is the dominant tree of the evergreen broad-leaved forests distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. Here, we present a high-quality genome of C. camphora at the chromosome level. Comparative analysis of the C. camphora genome with respect to the genomes of magnoliids and other angiosperms enabled us to determine the phylogenetic position of magnoliids, the occurrence of WGD. |
