Title Aberrant gut-metabolome-immune network in schizophrenia
Relevance Medical
Data types Metagenome
Organisms human gut metagenome
Description Although schizophrenia (SCZ) has been associated with dramatic changes in the gut microbiome and serum metabolome, the molecular interface between the host and microbiota is poorly understood. To address this, we performed an integrative analysis of intestinal microbiota, serum metabolome, and serum inflammatory cytokines in SCZ patients and controls using a multi-omics strategy. Sixty-three SCZ patients and 57 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and bead-based multiplex cytokine assays were performed simultaneously on serum samples, and shotgun metagenomic sequencing was used to evaluate the gut microbial composition and functional potential.
