Description OSCC is related to periodontitis, and the oral cavity is colonized by a vast number of commensal microbiota. However, changes in the oral microbial community in OSCC with periodontitis have not yet to be defined. Mechanistically, the role of the periodontitis microbiota in carcinogenesis is still lacking. Confirmed by our data, periodontitis microbiota or antibiotic treatment promoted the development of OSCC, accompanied by the oral altered bacterial community. Periodontitis microbiota induce the expansion of M2-TAM and the activation of IL-17+ γδ T cells associated with OSCC development, and then the IL-17+ γδ T cells promote tumor cell proliferation by the IL-17/STAT3 pathway. Our data suggested an insight into the pathogenesis of OSCC with periodontitis by outlining the tumor-associated immune response shaped by periodontitis microbiota and hope to provide new research and intervention targets for OSCC with periodontitis.
