Penicillium is a genus of ascomycetous fungi with great importance in the natural environment, and food and drug production. Penicillium expansum is a widespread phytopathogenic fungus that causes serious decay in a variety of horticultural crops, resulting in huge economic losses. This pathogen usually produces patulin, a potential carcinogenic mycotoxin, which threatens human health via food chain. Penicillium italicum is a improtant phytopathogenic fungus that causes serious decay in citrus fruits, resulting in huge economic losses. To explore the molecular mechanisms of infection and/or mycotoxin biosynthesis, we sequenced a P. expanum strain T01 and P. italicum strain B3 by Illumina Hiseq2000 with the whole genome shotgun sequencing strategy |
