Title Periodontitis contributes to adipose tissue dysfunction via gingival EVs
Relevance Medical
Data types Transcriptome or Gene expression
Organisms Mus musculus
Description Recent studies have indicated that periodontitis could promote metabolic dysregulation and insulin resistance by affecting the function of white adipose tissue (WAT). However, the mechanisms linking periodontitis and adipose tissue dysfunction are still needed to be explored. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) were reported to deliver message to distal sites and regulate their function. Recent researches have shown periodontitis could change the composition of EVs in corporal body fluids and EVs might be one of the mechanisms underlying the relationship between periodontitis and insulin resistance. Herein, we explored the impact of periodontitis on the function of WAT and the role of gingival EVs (gEVs) in this process.
