Description |
The cyanobacteria capture and transport the inorganic carbon source into the cell through a series of transporters located at the cell membrane, and highly enrich it in the carboxysome, a carbon-fixing machine with an icosahedral structure. Then, carbon would be fixed and converted into organic matter in the dark reaction stage of photosynthesis. Here, we use structural biology combined with biochemistry to reveal the 3-D structure and transport mechanism of carbon/nitrogen transporters, and elucidate the self-assembly and carbon fixation mechanism of carboxysome. |
