Relevance Medical
Data types Metagenome
Organisms viruses
Description Encephalitis and meningitis are notable global public health concerns, especially among infants or children. The use of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has greatly advanced our understanding of the viruses responsible for these diseases. We conducted a retrospective cohort to compare the virome characteristics between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum, which are commonly used in the clinical diagnosis of these disease. mNGS tools were used to compare the viral spectra between the 226 paired CSF and serum samples from 113 children with encephalitis and meningitis.
