Fibroepithelial tumors of the breast are biphasic tumors and include fibroadenomas and phyllodes tumors. Fibroadenomas are clinically benign while phyllodes tumors are more unpredictable in biological behavior, with potential for recurrence. Current molecular and immunohistochemical techniques have a limited role in the diagnosis of breast fibroepithelial lesions. In this study, we analysed the transcriptome of fibroepithelial tumors, based on within-sample relative expression ordering of gene pairs, aiming to construct signatures for diagnosing fibroadenomas and phyllodes tumors and classifying phyllodes tumors in the pre-operative setting. |
