Chicken shank color, influenced by the sex-linked ID gene, was studied using a resource family. SNP analysis identified a significant SNP on the Z chromosome, and a 143 bp deletion with a 2 bp insertion near CDKN2A strongly associated with yellow shank color. Expression studies implicated CDKN2A as the key gene influencing shank color. This study enhances understanding of chicken shank color genetics and has implications for auto-sexing chicks in the poultry industry. |
