Salmonella is one of the most common zoonotic foodborne pathogens, and its infection is one of the leading causes of inflammatory gastroenteritis, allegedly accompanied by dysbiosis. Gut commensals, such as putative Lactobacillus species, have been proven to exhibit broadly anti-bacterial activities and protect hosts against pathogen infections. Although the beneficial activities of probiotics in protecting host against diverse enteric pathogens have been extensively examined, the interactive roles of L. rhamnosus-derived tryptophan metabolites against enteric pathogen infection have not been fully studied yet. |
