Description The circadian clock is a molecular time-keeping mechanism which synchronizes cellular, tissue, and systemic biological functions with 24-hour cycles. Dysregulation of circadian clock has been implicated in pathogenesis and/or progression of a broad spectrum of kidney diseases. How the circadian clock is involved in renal regeneration remains elusive. We demonstrate that the intrinsic kidney tubule circadian clock is required for renal regeneration through enhancement of EMT and regulation of nephrongenic progenitors via lima1a. Our data suggested that circadian regulation of the cytoskeleton of tubular epithelial cells influences kidney regeneration efficacy, and highlight the importance of considering of circadian rhythms in clinical care in treating patients with acute kidney injury.
