Title Multiomics Signatures Reveal Genomic and Functional Heterogeneity of Cutibacterium acnes in Normal and Diseased Skin
Relevance Medical
Data types Metabolome
Organisms Cutibacterium acnes
Description Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) is the most abundant bacteria of normal human skin since adolescence, participating in both skin homeostasis and diseases. Here, we revealed individual and niche heterogeneity of C. acnes by analyzing single-strain genomes. Skin disease (atopic dermatitis and acne) and body site shaped the genomic differences of C. acnes, contributed by horizontal gene transfer and selection pressure. Matched genome, transcriptome, and metabolome analysis at the single-bacteria level unveiled the functional characteristics of C. acnes.
