Description |
This study investigates the potential of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) as an intervention for alcohol use disorder (AUD), a major public health issue with limited therapeutic options. Using alcohol-preferring rats, intragastric administration of SCFAs significantly reduced alcohol consumption and mitigated alcohol-induced intestinal, hepatic, and neuroinflammation. These findings highlight the relevance of SCFAs, particularly butyrate, as a safe, cost-effective strategy for addressing AUD. |
