This project aims to investigate the origins of the genetic divide across the Wallace Line in Indonesia by generating and analyzing ancient genomes, including two newly sequenced Late Neolithic individuals from western Indonesia. By integrating genetic and archaeological data from both sides of the boundary, we identified a two-phase divergence shaped by early Holocene separation and Neolithic Austronesian expansion. Our findings highlight how long-term demographic processes, migration waves, and geographic barriers collectively shaped the region's modern genetic structure. |
