Time-restricted feeding (TRF) shows promise in affecting body metabolic homeostasis by modulating circadian rhythms, but its effects on male fertility remain largely unexplored. This study aimed to investigate how different TRF patterns influence testicular homeostasis and spermatogenesis, specifically focusing on the role of gut microbiota and its metabolites within the "gut-testis" axis. We compared two groups of mice: those on a daytime-restricted feeding (DRF) schedule and those on a nighttime-restricted feeding (NRF) schedule, against a control group (Ctr) that had ad libitum access to food. We observed a significant reduction in testicular index and sperm quality in the NRF group; no impacts were found in the DRF group. Histological analysis confirmed a decreased number of spermatocytes and spermatozoa in NRF group. |
