This study employs untargeted metabolomics to systematically investigate the region-specific metabolic profiles in the caput, corpus, and cauda epididymidis of Hu sheep. The primary objective is to decipher the spatiotemporal metabolic dynamics that underpin sperm maturation within the epididymal microenvironment. By comparing differential metabolites and enriched metabolic pathways across these segments, we aim to identify key molecules and regulatory networks critical for acquiring sperm fertilization competence. The findings are expected to provide novel insights into the physiological mechanisms supporting high fecundity in Hu sheep and offer valuable targets for improving sperm preservation technologies in livestock. |
