The primary objective of this study is to decouple the 'abundance' of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) from their 'mobility'. Using an integrated framework combining field observations, microcosm simulations, and metatranscriptomics, we aimed to elucidate how algal blooms promote the translocation of ARGs from chromosomal loci to mobile plasmids and facilitate their dissemination. Samples were collected from Chaohu Lake between April and August 2021 and sequenced using both Nanopore and Illumina platforms. In addition, 11 species of epiphytic bacteria were isolated from Chaohu Lake and co-cultured with Microcystis aeruginosa for further experiments, followed by metatranscriptomic sequencing. |
