Title Type 1 Diabetes Genetics Consortium: A multi-ancestry, genome-wide association study of type 1 diabetes
Relevance Medical
Data types Phenotype or Genotype
Sample scope Multiisolate
Organism Homo sapiens [Taxonomy ID: 9606]
Description Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a common autoimmune disease in which the destruction of pancreatic beta-cells results in the eventual inability of the body to produce insulin. T1D occurs in individuals of all ages and ancestry groups, yet genome-wide analyses of T1D in populations of diverse (non-European) ancestry are missing. In order to address the gap in knowledge of genome-wide association of T1D in populations of diverse ancestry, we conducted a multi-ancestry genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis in T1D cases, controls, and families for risk of T1D as well as T1D age at onset. The goals of the study are to expand the genetic basis of T1D and T1D age-at-onset across genetic ancestries for detection of novel loci, genes, and variants, by conducting (1) a genome-wide meta...
