Cascade plants were grown in a glasshouse with active control of insects and plant pathogens. Young tissue of leaves, stems actively growing and apical meristems were harvested and immediately immersed in liquid nitrogen, then transferred into -80 C freezer until RNA extraction. |

There were no treatments applied to different tissue other than chemical sprays controlling insects and fungal pathogens. |

RNA from hop tissues was extracted using RNeasy Plant Mini Kit (Qiagen), using glass hooks to remove RNA from tubes. |
