DNA was extracted from root zone soil using FastDNA® SPIN Kit for Soil (MP Biochemicals, Solon, OH, USA), following the manufacturer’s instructions and stored at -80 °C until use. We performed 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing of the root zone soil samples. For prokaryotic amplicon preparation, the V4-V5 region of the 16S rDNA gene was amplified by PCR using 515F and 928R primers.
