SSTR5-AS1

From LncRNAWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

SSTR5-AS1 is a top candidate implicated in the development of neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). This lncRNA robustly distinguishes NEPC from prostate adenocarcinoma (AD).

Annotated Information

Name

SSTR5-AS1: SSTR5 antisense RNA 1 (HGNC nomenclature).

Characteristics

SSTR5-AS1 is an antisense transcript of SSTR5, which is a member of the superfamily of somatostatin receptors. Somatostatins are peptide hormones that regulate diverse cellular functions such as neurotransmission, cell proliferation, and endocrine signalling, as well as inhibiting the release of many hormones and other secretory proteins [1].

Function

SSTR5-AS1 has not been functionally characterized, but its sense form SSTR5 has and is a biomarker for neuroendocrine tumours [1].

Regulation

KDM4B and TADA3 are mRNAs that are predicted to hybridize and form joint structures independently with SSTR5-AS1 and LINC00514, respectively [1]. KDM4B can interact with N-Myc where it has been shown to regulate and epigenetically activate this oncogene in neuroblastoma [1] . N-Myc has been seen to drive the progression of NEPC [1].

Diseases

  • Neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) [1]

Expression

SSTR5-AS1 is among the highest expressed lncRNAs among a subset of lncRNAs that differentiate NEPC from AD [1]. The expression of two NEtD/NEPC lncRNA transcripts (SSTR5-AS1 and LINC00514) was able to separate patients more likely to develop metastatic disease from those that did not [1].
