PCAT18 is specifically expressed in prostate and prostate cancer (PCa) [1]. It is up-regulated in PCa comparing with benign prostatic hyperplasia samples, and is significantly up-regulated in metastatic PCa comparing with nonmetastatic PCa [1]. In addition, PCAT18 expression is higher in androgen receptor (AR) positive than in AR-negative PCa cells [1].
Function
PCAT18 is a potential therapeutic target and biomarker for metastatic PCa [1]. PCAT18 silencing significantly inhibits PCa cell proliferation and triggered caspase 3/7 activation, with no effect on nonneoplastic cells. PCAT18 silencing also inhibits PCa cell migration and invasion [1].
