Characteristics
GARS-DT is located downstream of the CRHR2 gene between the genes GGCT (gamma-glutamylcyclotransferase) and GARS (glycyl-tRNA synthetase). [1] GARS-DT has numerous alternative splice variants and its first exon overlaps the GARS gene first exon in the reverse orientation. The region overlapping CRHR2, GARS, AC005154.6 and GGCT displays strong LD and several SNPs in this region including in CRHR2 are associated with AC005154.6 expression, but they are not in strong LD with rs255105. [1] Only a part of GARS-DT is evolutionally conserved among primates, and only small regions are conserved in rodents. There are several regions enriched with histone modifications. [1]
Function
GARS-DT LncRNAs that are encoded between genes AC005154.6, are known as long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs). [1] GARS-DT play a role in a wide range of functions including adaptive behavior and neurological diseases and are potential new biomarkers and drug targets for stress-related disorders. [1] The majority of GARS-DT lncRNAs show tissue- and temporal-specific expression in the CNS. [1]
