Features AK023948 is embedded in the TG-SLA (thyroglobulin and Src-like adaptor) locus on chromosome 8q24, a susceptibility locus for papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). An unspliced cDNA, AK023948 is located in an intron of both the TG (sense orientation) and SLA (antisense) genes. A 12 Kb haplotype containing 8 SNP markers for PTC is harboured in the TG-SLA locus, which also includes two additional putative noncoding RNA genes. AK023948 (cDNA FLJ13886 fis, clone THYRO1001559) was cloned from thyroid gland and is 2,807b long [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14702039 (Ota (2004))]. The transcript is significantly down-regulated in most PTC tumors, thus representing a candidate susceptibility gene for PTC.
