Approved Name
HOXA13: homeobox A13
Characteristics
HOXA13 is the most distal member of the HOXA genes, is located on chromosome7. [1] HOXA13 belongs to The homeobox (HOX) genes which are an evolutionarily highly conserved gene family of homeodomain-containing transcription factors, which play critical roles in regulating embryonic development. [2] HOXA13 is a marker of gut primordia posteriorization during development, plays a crucial role in extra-embryonic vascularization and is involved in leukemogenesis. [3]
Function
In the developing limb, HOXA13 localizes to discrete domains within the interdigital and interarticular regions, where its function is required for interdigital programmed cell death (IPCD), digit outgrowth and chondrogenesis [4][5] HOXA13 plays major role in development of HCC. [3] A plenty of studies showed that elevated HOXA13 expression in tumor tissue was correlated with poor survival of patients with various solid tumors [1]
Regulation
Primary human fibroblast manipulation via siRNAs directed against HOTTIP RNA resulted in a concomitant reduction of HOXA13 levels [6]
Disease
- Hand-foot-genital syndrome [7]
- Hepatocellular carcinoma [1]
- Preaxial deficiency, postaxial polydactyly, and hypospadias [4]
Expression
HOXA13 overexpression is found in poor OS in human cancer, Histological grade and TNM stage.HOXA13 shows significant overexpression in lymph node metastasis. [1] HOXA13 might be a valuable biomarker of poor prognosis. [1]
