Characteristics
PRNCR1 (prostate cancer non-coding RNA 1), ∼13 kb intron-less long non-coding RNA (ncRNA) that is transcribed in centromeric region of human chromosome 8q24.21 hat, a large “gene-desert”, whose region is susceptibility to prostate cancer [1].
Function
PRNCR1 (also known as PCAT8) and PCGEM1, bind successively to the androgen receptor and strongly enhance both ligand-dependent and ligand-independent androgen-receptor-mediated gene activation programs and proliferation in prostate cancer cells [2]. PRNCR1 overexpression can potentially serve as a required component of castration-resistance in prostatic tumors [2].
the polymorphisms in the lncRNA PRNCR1 may be related to the development of colorcetal cancer (CRC), offering a novel and potential strategy for functional analysis of susceptibility loci to human diseases[3].
Expression
PRNCR1 expression was upregulated in some of the PC cells as well as precursor lesion prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia[1].
