Characteristics

The HELLP locus is in an intergenic region on 12q23.2 between PMCH and IGF1.And the HELLP associated long non-coding RNA is a transcript of 205,012 bases. [1]

Functions

Results of whole-genome RNA-Seq indicated that the HELLP lincRNA is involved in 1 or more processes in the cell cycle, in which siRNA-mediated knockdown of the transcript leads to reduced activity of the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, while the G1/S phase shows an increase in activity.[1]

Expression

By FISH, expression was found to be nuclear, perinuclear, and cytoplasmic, both in vitro — in the extravillous trophoblast cell line (SGHPL-5) used for its identification-and in vivo (i.e., first trimester placenta tissue),whereas no signal was detected using a sense probe as negative control.[1]
