Characteristics
SILC1 is found in a gene desert and resides �200 kb downstream of Sox11, a known regulator of neurogenesis and neuronal regeneration [1]. SILC1 is conserved in sequence and expression in various eutherian mammals, where it is robustly expressed in neuronal tissues [1].
Function
The lncRNA SILC1 is important in biological behaviors of neuroblastoma through mechanisms involving p53 pathway members such as HIF-1α, Noxa, and Bid [2]. SILC1 influences proliferation by modulating HIF-1α protein expression [2]. SILC1 may predict the prognosis of neuroblastoma [2]. SILC1 lncRNA acts by activating in cis the expression of Sox11 transcription factor [1]. Loss of SILC1 in mice leads to a delayed regeneration following sciatic nerve crush [1]. SILC1 KD Affects Regeneration through Reduction in Sox11 Levels [1].
