LINC00958, long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 958 has been termed as an oncogene in bladder cancer and also has an oncogenic role in gliamogenesis.

Function

RNA pull-down and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP)shows thatLINC00958 likely acts as an oncogenic driver contributing to an aggressive cancerous phenotype likely through interaction with proteins involved in initiation of translation and/or post-transcriptional modification of RNA [2].

Results indicate that LINC00958 may exhibit oncogenic properties by promoting proliferation, migration and invasion and hence may play a role during the metastatic process of BC cells [2].

LINC00958 acts as an oncogenic gene in the gliomagenesis through miR-203-CDK2 regulation, providing a novel insight into glioma tumorigenesis [1].


Regulation

LINC00958 binds proteins involved in regulation and initiation of translation and in post-transcriptional modification of RNA, including Metadherin, which has previously been associated with bladder cancer (BC) [2]. LINC00958 regulates glioma carcinogenesis through modulating proliferation, invasion, and cell cycle regulation ref name="ref2" />.
