MIR9-1HG
A novel, brain-specific cDNA, denoted MIR9-1HG, was cloned from human brain which participates in brain-specific c-fos signaling pathways involved in cellular remodeling of brain architecture and is highly up-regulated during human embryogenesis.[1] [2]

Characteristics
The MIR9-1HG protein was found to be predominantly distributed within the cytoplasm. The ectopic expression of MIR9-1HG in the nonmalignant L02 cell line promoted cellular proliferation and colony formation in vitro, as well as cell cycle progression via the regulation of the expression of specific cell cycle-related proteins.[2]
Function
MIR9-1HG encoded an 18-kDa serine/threonine-rich polypeptide containing a P-loop motif and an SH3-binding region with phosphorylation sites for a variety of protein kinases (cdc2, CDK2, MAPK, CDK5, protein kinase C, Ca(2+)/calmodulin protein kinase 2, casein kinase 2) involved in cell proliferation and differentiation. [1]
Regulation
The overexpression of MIR9-1HG induced the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) that is linked to metastasis.[2]
Expression
During late development and in adult human brain, MIR9-1HG was expressed in diverse brain regions including the thalamus, subthalamic nucleus, corpus callosum, substantia nigra, caudate nucleus, amygdala, and hippocampus. [1] MIR9-1HG is up-regulated in hepatic cirrhosis tissues and is further up-regulated in primary HCC tumors. [2]
