Characteristics
THORLNC has a chromosomal locaton of 2q14.2 (HGNC data). Lnc-THOR is exclusively expressed in testis and human cancers [1].
Function
THORLNC has been reported to be involved in more than one cancer. In one study, THOR knockout produced fertilization defects in zebrafish and also conferred a resistance to melanoma onset [2]. THORLNC expression was also found to be essential for human osteosarcoma OS cell growth and therefore Lnc-THOR could be a novel therapeutic target and/or diagnosis marker for human OS [1]. THOR expression was also seen to promote Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cell growth in vitro and in vivo and can be employed as a therapeutic target [3]. Moreover, knockdown of IGF2BP1-bound nc-THOR deplets IGF2BP1-dependent mRNAs, causing inhibition on A431 cell survival and proliferation and as a result IGF2BP1 silencing or knockout inhibited A431 tumor xenograft growth in mice [4].
