WAKMAR2, a Long Noncoding RNA Downregulated in Human Chronic Wounds, is an important regulator of skin wound healing.[1]

Annotated Information

Name

Approved symbol:WAKMAR2

Approved name:wound and keratinocyte migration associated lncRNA 2

HGNC ID:53754

Alias symbol:lnc-TNFAIP3

RefSeq ID:NR_049793

Characteristics

In both cytoplasm and nucleus.[1]

Function

WAKMAR2 is an important regulator of skin wound healing and its deficiency contribute to the pathogenesis of chronic wounds.[1][2] WAKMAR2 restricte the production of inflammatory chemokines by keratinocytes, while enhancing cell migration.[1] WAKMAR2 modulates Keratinocyte Motility and Production of Inflammatory Chemokines.[1]

Regulation

WAKMAR2 regulates the production of inflammatory chemokines by keratinocytes.[1]

WAKMAR2 expression is induced by TGF-β signaling.[1]

Expression

Knockdown of WAKMAR2 impaire re-epithelization of human ex vivo wounds.[1]

Disease

Pathophysiological inflammation.[2]
