The AIRN ,the master regulator of imprinted expression in the Igf2r imprinted gene cluster, splices suppression and termination silencing activity.[1]

Annotated Information

Name

Approved symbol:AIRN

Approved name:antisense of IGF2R non-protein coding RNA

HGNC ID:34515

Previous name:antisense of IGF2R RNA (non-protein coding)

Alias symbol:AIR|NCRNA00088|IGF2RAS|IGF2R-AS1

RefSeq ID:NR_047511

LncBook ID:HSALNG0054798

Characteristics

The AIRN transcript is 108 kb long, predominantly unspliced and nuclear localized, with only a minority being variably spliced and exported.[1] Mouse Igf2r imprinted expression is controlled by the AIRN whose promoter lies in an intronic maternally-methylated CpG island. [2]

Function

AIRN expression not only induces silencing of flanking mRNA genes but also protects the paternal copy of the ICE from de novo methylation.[1]

Expression

AIRN expression changes in promoter deletion and replacement cells. [1]

DNA methylation of the maternal imprint control element (ICE) restricts AIRN expression to the paternal allele. [1]
