Characteristics

MESTIT1 is transcribed from the paternal allele only in the opposite direction to the MEST gene.[1] MESTIT1 is expressed mainly as a 4.2 kb transcript and is only characterized in humans.[1]

Function

MESTIT1 is involved in the regulation of MEST expression during development.[1]

Expression

MESTIT1 is widely expressed at low levels in an opposite orientation to MEST and imprinted (paternally expressed) in all fetal tissues examined.[1]
