1Summary
Title Maternal L-carnitine supplementation promotes brown adipose tissue thermogenesis of newborn goats after cold exposure
Description From day 60 to day 150 of gestation (term = 90), ewes were fed experimental diets contained coated L-carnitine at 30 mg/kg BW or control diets. After birth, the newborn goats were wiped and fed colostrum (30 mL/kg BW) in 25°C environments for 2 h. Then, male goat kids from L-carnitine treatment group (2.87 ± 0.40 kg, n = 6) and control group (2.89 ± 0.36 kg, n = 6) were selected respectively, and then placed into a cold room (6°C) for 24 h. Warmed colostrum was fed three times at 8, 14, and 20 h of age. After cold stimulation for 24 h, all goats were injected by using 0.1ml/kg BW xylazine hydrochloride (Shengda, Changchun, China) and then sacrificed by arterial bleeding under full anesthesia. Perirenal adipose tissues were sampled and subsequently stored at -80 °C.
