Metabonomics analysis of small intestinal epithelial cells after E. coli infection
Title | Metabonomics analysis of small intestinal epithelial cells after E. coli infection |
---|---|
Description | Macaca mulatta (Mm) is an ideal non-human primate model for biomedical research. However, extensive captive breeding makes Mm frequently challenged by infectious intestinal diseases caused by pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). We found that intestinal iron enrichment caused by pathogenic E. coli is strongly associated with infectious diarrhea in Mm due to E. coli and host interactions. Iron overload after infection makes intestinal epithelial cells more susceptible to pathogenic E. coli, which in turn induces ferroptosis and pyroptosis of intestinal epithelial cells, resulting in intestinal injury. These findings will lead to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of infectious diarrhea in non-human primates. |
