The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens Sta° l, is one of the most serious insect pests of rice. The damage caused by BPH feeding has the greatest effect on the growth and crop yield of the susceptible rice plant through the removal of assimilates and the reduction in photosynthetic rate of leaves. Plant death can occur if the amount of energy supplied is less than that required for tissue maintenance&lt;br /&gt;
Rice cultivars carrying Bph3 have shown a higher degree and broader-spectrum of resistance against the BPH.&lt;br /&gt;

the localization of the major resistance gene Bph3 to the short arm of rice chromosome 6 based on analyses utilizing SSR markers previously located near the bph4 locus. &lt;br /&gt;

The simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker RM190 and the sequence-tagged site (STS) marker KAM4 linked to BPH resistance gene Bph3 and bph2, respectively. The markers were identified in resistance and susceptible individual lines of the BC1F2 population, which were derived from a cross between PTB33 and RD6 .&lt;br /&gt;

Segregation for resistance to the brown planthopper in crosses among four resistant cultivars representing Bph1,bph2,bph3,and bph4,respective for two independent segregating recessive genes.Therefore,the relationship between bph2 and bph4 was also in agreement with the results of LAKSHMINARAYANA and KHUSH,Lastly,with respect to the relation between Bph3 and bph4,the reciprocal cross between ‘Rathu Heenati’ and ‘Babawee’ produced only one susceptible seedlings,from this result,it may be concluded that Bph3 is closely linked or allelic to bph4 as reported by SIDHU and KHUSH.&lt;br /&gt;
    Therefore,from the above mentioned results, the relationships among the four BPH resistance gene can be illustrates as show as in figure.&lt;br /&gt;
