The RERJ1 cDNA is 1353 bp in length, with an open reading frame (ORF) encoding a putative polypeptide of 310 amino acid residues. The nucleotide sequence data&lt;br /&gt;
for the RERJ1 cDNA reported here will appear in the GSDB, DDJB, EMBL, and NCBI nucleotide sequence databases under Accession No. AB040744.&lt;br /&gt;
The putative amino acid sequence of RERJ1 contains a bHLH motif characteristic of a superfamily of transcriptional regulators The entire amino acid sequence&lt;br /&gt;

Jasmonic acid (JA) is a plant hormone that regulates various developmental processes in plants and also acts as a signal molecule in plant defense against herbivores and pathogens. Treatment of suspension-cultured rice cells with a chitin elicitor (N-acetylchitoheptaose) induces the production of phytoalexins. JA is a key signal transducer between the recognition of N-acetylchitoheptaose and the production of the phytoalexin momilactone A in rice cells. Screened for cDNAs&lt;br /&gt;
for early JA-responsive genes using a cDNA library constructed from suspension-cultured rice cells treated with JA for 1/2 h. This resulted in the isolation of a cDNA for RERJ1, which is also induced by treatment with JA. It was suggested that RERJ1 encodes a novel transcriptional regulator with a basic helix–loop–helix&lt;br /&gt;
(bHLH) motif. Basic HLH proteins, which have been identified in all eukaryotes examined to date, form either homo- or hetero-dimers. These proteins constitute a &lt;br /&gt;

It is a upregulated genes in plants under the drought stress and the mechanical damage.And after mechanical damage, its expression is affected by a JA-dependent manner. RERJ1 only  induced in place where mechanical damaged, but the drought make it expressed throughout the leaf area. Therefore, RERJ1 as a transcriptional activator can regulate gene expression induced by stress, and this stress related with JA accumulation areas.RERJ1 plays a role as a transcriptional activator for regulating stress-inducible gene expression, with a strong correlation to JA accumulation in the stressed region.&lt;br /&gt;
The plant bHLH proteins that have been characterized to date function in transcriptional regulation associated with several physiological phenomena, including anthocyanin pigmentation , DELILA in snapdragon. The biological functions of most plant bHLH proteins remain unclear.The molecular cloning and characterization&lt;br /&gt;

The RERJ1 cDNA is 1353 bp in length, with an open reading frame (ORF) encoding a putative polypeptide of 310 amino acid residues. The nucleotide sequence data&lt;br /&gt;
for the RERJ1 cDNA reported here will appear in the GSDB, DDJB, EMBL, and NCBI nucleotide sequence databases under Accession No. AB040744.&lt;br /&gt;
The putative amino acid sequence of RERJ1 contains a bHLH motif characteristic of a superfamily of transcriptional regulators The entire amino acid sequence&lt;br /&gt;
of RERJ1 shares less than 20% identity with bHLH proteins functionally characterized so far.&lt;br /&gt;

Jasmonic acid (JA) is a plant hormone that regulates various developmental processes in plants and also acts as a signal molecule in plant defense against herbivores and pathogens. Treatment of suspension-cultured rice cells with a chitin elicitor (N-acetylchitoheptaose) induces the production of phytoalexins. JA is a key signal transducer between the recognition of N-acetylchitoheptaose and the production of the phytoalexin momilactone A in rice cells. Screened for cDNAs&lt;br /&gt;
for early JA-responsive genes using a cDNA library constructed from suspension-cultured rice cells treated with JA for 1/2 h. This resulted in the isolation of a cDNA for RERJ1, which is also induced by treatment with JA. It was suggested that RERJ1 encodes a novel transcriptional regulator with a basic helix–loop–helix&lt;br /&gt;
(bHLH) motif. Basic HLH proteins, which have been identified in all eukaryotes examined to date, form either homo- or hetero-dimers. These proteins constitute a &lt;br /&gt;
superfamily of transcription factors that has been extensively characterized in non-plant eukaryotes, in particular in mammalian systems, in which they have important roles in neurogenesis, myogenesis, cell proliferation and differentiation, cell lineage establishment, sex determination,and other essential processes . &lt;br /&gt;

RERJ1, a JA-inducible transcription factor in rice, is up-regulated by exposure to wounding and drought stress.RERJ1 has self-activating ability. It is a upregulated genes in plants under the drought stress and the mechanical damage.And after mechanical damage, its expression is affected by a JA-dependent manner. RERJ1 only  induced in place where mechanical damaged, but the drought make it expressed throughout the leaf area. Therefore, RERJ1 as a transcriptional activator can regulate gene expression induced by stress, and this stress related with JA accumulation areas.RERJ1 plays a role as a transcriptional activator for regulating stress-inducible gene expression, with a strong correlation to JA accumulation in the stressed region.&lt;br /&gt;
The plant bHLH proteins that have been characterized to date function in transcriptional regulation associated with several physiological phenomena, including anthocyanin pigmentation , DELILA in snapdragon. The biological functions of most plant bHLH proteins remain unclear.The molecular cloning and characterization&lt;br /&gt;
of the JA-responsive rice gene RERJ1, which encodes a bHLH protein.&lt;br /&gt;

The expression of RERJ1 after wounding is regulated in a JA-dependent manner in rice. RERJ1 expression was induced only at the region of injury after wounding, whereas expression was induced in the entire leaf after drought. According to JA measurements of stressed leaves, high accumulation of endogenous JA was only detected around the wound site in a rice leaves, whereas the drought treatment led to uniform accumulation of JA in the entire leaf, suggesting that RERJ1 will be a useful marker gene for studies on localization of JA in rice.&lt;br /&gt;
It was suggested that RERJ1 encodes a novel transcriptional regulator with a basic helix–loop–helix(bHLH) motif.&lt;br /&gt;

Jasmonic acid (JA) is a plant hormone that regulates various developmental processes in plants and also acts as a signal molecule in plant defense against herbivores and pathogens. Treatment of suspension-cultured rice cells with a chitin elicitor (N-acetylchitoheptaose) induces the production of phytoalexins. JA is a key signal transducer between the recognition of N-acetylchitoheptaose and the production of the phytoalexin momilactone A in rice cells. Screened for cDNAs&lt;br /&gt;
for early JA-responsive genes using a cDNA library constructed from suspension-cultured rice cells treated with JA for 1/2 h. This resulted in the isolation of a cDNA for RERJ1, which is also induced by treatment with JA. It was suggested that RERJ1 encodes a novel transcriptional regulator with a basic helix–loop–helix&lt;br /&gt;
(bHLH) motif. Basic HLH proteins, which have been identified in all eukaryotes examined to date, form either homo- or hetero-dimers. These proteins constitute a &lt;br /&gt;
superfamily of transcription factors that has been extensively characterized in non-plant eukaryotes, in particular in mammalian systems, in which they have important roles in neurogenesis, myogenesis, cell proliferation and differentiation, cell lineage establishment, sex determination,and other essential processes . &lt;br /&gt;

RERJ1, a JA-inducible transcription factor in rice, is up-regulated by exposure to wounding and drought stress.RERJ1 has self-activating ability. It is a upregulated genes in plants under the drought stress and the mechanical damage.And after mechanical damage, its expression is affected by a JA-dependent manner. RERJ1 only  induced in place where mechanical damaged, but the drought make it expressed throughout the leaf area. Therefore, RERJ1 as a transcriptional activator can regulate gene expression induced by stress, and this stress related with JA accumulation areas.RERJ1 plays a role as a transcriptional activator for regulating stress-inducible gene expression, with a strong correlation to JA accumulation in the stressed region.&lt;br /&gt;
The plant bHLH proteins that have been characterized to date function in transcriptional regulation associated with several physiological phenomena, including anthocyanin pigmentation , DELILA in snapdragon. The biological functions of most plant bHLH proteins remain unclear.The molecular cloning and characterization&lt;br /&gt;
of the JA-responsive rice gene RERJ1, which encodes a bHLH protein.&lt;br /&gt;

The expression of RERJ1 after wounding is regulated in a JA-dependent manner in rice. RERJ1 expression was induced only at the region of injury after wounding, whereas expression was induced in the entire leaf after drought. According to JA measurements of stressed leaves, high accumulation of endogenous JA was only detected around the wound site in a rice leaves, whereas the drought treatment led to uniform accumulation of JA in the entire leaf, suggesting that RERJ1 will be a useful marker gene for studies on localization of JA in rice.&lt;br /&gt;
It was suggested that RERJ1 encodes a novel transcriptional regulator with a basic helix–loop–helix(bHLH) motif.&lt;br /&gt;

RERJ1, a JA-inducible transcription factor in rice, is up-regulated by exposure to wounding and drought stress.RERJ1 has self-activating ability. It is a upregulated genes in plants under the drought stress and the mechanical damage.And after mechanical damage, its expression is affected by a JA-dependent manner. RERJ1 only  induced in place where mechanical damaged, but the drought make it expressed throughout the leaf area. Therefore, RERJ1 as a transcriptional activator can regulate gene expression induced by stress, and this stress related with JA accumulation areas.RERJ1 plays a role as a transcriptional activator for regulating stress-inducible gene expression, with a strong correlation to JA accumulation in the stressed region.&lt;br /&gt;

RERJ1, a JA-inducible transcription factor in rice, is up-regulated by exposure to wounding and drought stress.&lt;br /&gt;

The expression of RERJ1 after wounding is regulated in a JA-dependent manner in rice. RERJ1 expression was induced only at the region of injury after wounding, whereas expression was induced in the entire leaf after drought. According to JA measurements of stressed leaves, high accumulation of endogenous JA was only detected around the wound site in a rice leaves, whereas the drought treatment led to uniform accumulation of JA in the entire leaf, suggesting that RERJ1will be a useful marker gene for studies on localization of JA in rice.&lt;br /&gt;
