A phylogenetic tree of eukaryotic DNA methyltransferases. The tree is based on the conserved catalytic domains of Dnmt1, CMT, Dim-2 and Dnmt3 proteins, with bacterial methyltransferases included as an outgroup. Conserved domains were aligned using MUSCLE v3.7 and the phylogenetic tree was inferred using MrBayes v3.1.2 as described [7]. Dnmt1, Dim-2, CMT, Dnmt3 and bacterial proteins are colored blue, red, green, purple and black, respectively.
