The RPM1 gene was shown to have originated prior to split between the ancestors of the Brassica and Arabidopsis lineages because a single homologous copy was found at two of six homol- ogous loci in Brassica napus, a cultivated polyploid relative of A. thaliana (Grant et al., 1998).
