The rice gene Os05g0353400 was reported as Imp β1 in 2010[1] by researchers from Korea.

Annotated Information

Gene Symbol

  • Os05g0353400 <=> OsImp β1, Imp β1

Function

  • Importin β1 interacts with nuclear transport factors and mediates the import of nuclear proteins.
  • OsImpβ1 is specifically required for pollen tube elongation.

Expression

Fig. 2. Expression profiles of the OsImpβ1 gene using GUS assay [1].
  • The researchers isolated a pollen-expressed gene, rice Importin β1 (OsImpβ1), from a T-DNA insertional population that was trapped by a promoterless β-glucuronidase (GUS) gene. The GUS reporter was expressed in the anthers and ovaries from early through mature developmental stages. Its expression was also observed in all floral organs. However, these patterns changed as the spikelet developed.

Subcellular localization

Fig. 6. Subcellular localization of OsImpβ1. [1].
  • OsImportin β1 is located at the nucleus(Figure 6)
