Blast, caused by Magnaporthe oryzae, is one of the most widespread and destructive diseases of rice. The Oryza sativa (rice) resistance gene Pia confers resistance to the blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae carrying the AVR-Pia avirulence gene. Pia , carried by cv. Aichi Asahi,is located on the short arm of chromosome 11.Associated with the rice leaf blast resistance which can make rice rice blast fungus produces a small species-specific resistance. Previous studies have shown that, the gene resistance spectrum of Pia is narrow, but widespread in Japanese rice varieties. the method of classical genetic is used to identify  this gene. Have been cloned.(Okuyama et al., 2011)
