The rice Os09g0540800 was reported as OsFD1 in 2013 [1] by researchers from Japan.

Annotated Information

Figure 2. Expression of rice FD genes in various organs.[1].

Gene Symbol

  • Os09g0540800 <=> OsbZIP77, OsFD1

Function

  • FD encodes a basic leucine zipper (bZIP)-containing transcription factor which is a key component of the FAC (florigen activation complex)
  • OsFD1 activates OsMADS15, a rice homolog of Arabidopsis APETALA1, leading to flowering.
  • FD function has diverged between OsFD1 and OsFD2, but formation of a FAC is essential for their function.
  • Overexpression of OsFD2, a member of the Poaceae FD2 group, produced smaller leaves with shorter plastochrons, suggesting that OsFD2 controls leaf development.

Expression

  • The accumulation of OsFD1, OsFD2 and OsFD3 mRNAs in vari- ous organs was examined by reverse transcription–PCR (RT–PCR) (Fig. 2).
  • All three transcripts accumulated in all of the organs tested: leaf blades, leaf sheaths, lamina joint regions connecting the leaf blade and leaf sheath, stems of vegetative phase plants, crown roots, tiller buds and shoot apices of vegetative phase plants. Lamina joints included ligules and auricles.

Subcellular localization

  • Subcellular localization showed that OsFD1 accumulated predominantly in the nuclei of rice cells.

You can also add sub-section(s) at will.

Labs working on this gene

  • Laboratory of Plant Molecular Genetics, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, 8916-5 Takayama, Ikoma, Nara, 630-0192 Japan
