Plants use antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APx), glutathione reductase (GR), and catalase (CAT)as well as antioxidants catalase (AsA) and glutathione (GSH) to scavenge ROS[1]. The involvement of H2O2 in HS- and Cd-mediated changes in the expression of APx and GR in leaves of rice Seedlings has been reported. APx plays an important role in scavenging and in protecting cells against the toxic effects of H2O2 in higher plants. APx is located in different cellular compartments. Eight types of APx in rice have been described for Oryza sativa: two cytosolic (OsAPx1 and OsAPx2), two putative peroxi-somal (OsAPx3 and OsAPx4), and four chloroplastic isoforms (OsAPx5, OsAPx6, OsAPx7, and OsAPx8)[2]. OsAPx4 gene has its function related to the functions assigned to the peroxisome and probably acts in the physiological processes regulation, such as senescence[3].
