the transcription of riceatp1starts from at least eight positions, as follows:!678 (h),!470 (g),!441 (f),!438 (e), !427 (d),!423 (c),!273(b) and!219 (a) ofatp1 (Fig. 3). The sequences around the eight sites of initiation of transcription of the riceatp1gene were compared with the consensus promotor sequence of rice mitochondrial genes that was proposed previously (Nakazono etal.1995 b).
