Chuang wang[7] detected the expression patterns of OsHsfs in rice. They found The majority of OsHsf genes had a low to moderate level in most tissues, while some displayed a tissue-specific manner (Fig.1). For example HsfB1, than other genes has a relative heavy level in the tissues of root and seed. Chuang wang also studied the Cis-acting elements in OsHsf promoters. They found 9 different Cis-acting elements in total. One of the Cis-acting element,ARE and GC-motif involved in the anaerobic induction, has a high number of 4 in the HsfB1.  We can suppose that the high level of HsfB1 in seed and root and the high level of ARE and GC-motif are adaptive to the environment for rice.

Function

Please input function information here.

Heat stress transcription factors (Hsfs) are the central regulators of defense response to heat stress. Plant Hsf gene family is divided into three classes, HsfA, HsfB, and HsfC, according to their protein structures[1]. HsfB1 is one gene of the HsfB which consists of 8 genes. plant Hsfs diversify in their biological functions[2][3]. HsfA members are capable of transcriptional activation, while HsfB members act as repressors or as co-activators (e.g., HsfB1) of HsfA members. Overexpression of Hsf genes in transgenic plants resulted in an up-regulation of heat stress-associated genes and an enhancement of thermotolerance, whereas the down-regulation of Hsf genes leads to a reduction in the thermotolerance[4][5]. In addition to control of heat stress response, Hsfs have also been reported to be involved in the defense response to pathogen attack, oxidative stress, heavy metals, dehydration and salinity, and in certain processes of development and differentiation[6].
